Joie Studio has a nice synopsis of the letterpress process on her blog - her process is a little different than the one I learned at the CCA due to having different presses, but the gist essentially the same. Looks like she has a clamshell press, where the plate/type and the paper "meet" together to create the impression and image, whereas at the CCA they have cylinder presses, where the plate is laid flat and the paper "rolled" over it. My understanding is that clamshell presses are smaller, thus more practical for at home or small studio use.
So I dusted off my Gocco press today - I have to start using it now! And I've also dusted off the Illustrator Basics book that's been sitting in a box for several years - it's about time I learned that program. Anyone out there have any tips?
